What is a Beard/Facial Hair Transplant?
Hair transplants to thicken the beard or facial hair are performed by taking (harvesting) hair from hair-bearing areas of the scalp (donor site) and transferring it to the face to improve the development of a beard, goatee, sideburns, or mustache (recipient site). Depending on the recipient site, the number of transferred hairs can vary, for example, a mustache needs less than a beard.
It is important to understand that the scalp does not have an infinite number of hairs that can be transplanted. Therefore, young men at risk for male pattern baldness should consider this when determining a facial hair transplant. For example, the scalp contains between 6,500 to 7,500 total grafts, thus if you use 2,000 grafts for your beard. The remaining number of grafts left to use on the scalp will be 4,500 to 5,500.
